Etymology
[edit]Inherited from Proto-Turkic *tōrak (“cheese, dried milk”), possibly ultimately from Proto-Iranian *tūray- (“whey”),[1] compare Khotanese ttūra (“cheese”).[2][3] Cognate with Chuvash турăх (turăh, “sour milk”) and through Bulgar, Hungarian túró (“cottage cheese”).[4]
