From Vulgar Latin *ōrdiō, with the Aromanian suffix -escu, or through an early Romance form *ōrdiscō, ultimately from Latin ōrdior. Compare Romanian urzi, urzesc, Italian ordire, ordisco, French ourdir, ourdis.
