Etymology

A methatesized formation from earlier *vëndër, from (deprecated template usage) [etyl] Proto-Albanian *ŭ(n)dərā, from (deprecated template usage) [etyl] Proto-Indo-European *wedʰrom. Compare Old Church Slavonic ведро (vedro, fine weather), Old Norse veðr (wind, air, weather), Old English weder. Alternatively from (deprecated template usage) [etyl] Proto-Albanian *awa-renta, a derivative of rend (to run, to hurry).
