Etymology[edit]

Learned borrowing from French atmosphère from atmo- < Ancient Greek ἀτμός m (steam) + -sphère < Ancient Greek σφαῖρα (sphaîra)[1] Morphologically, from ατμο- +‎ -σφαιρα.
