Ancient Greek[edit]

Alternative forms[edit]

Etymology[edit]

Analyzed as a derivation from a stem βλε- found also in καβλέει (kabléei, to gulp down) and βλεῖ (bleî, to collect honey, milk). According to Beekes, since this stem cannot be of Indo-European origin, the word must be Pre-Greek, which is confirmed by the alternative form.

Pronunciation[edit]
