[edit]- θῐμβρός (thimbrós)
Etymology
[edit]Although the etymology is uncertain, the prenasalized form points to Pre-Greek origin. Therefore, not related to φοῖβος (phoîbos, “pure, bright, brilliant”), as per Ehrlich, who derives it from Proto-Indo-European *gʷʰigʷ-ro-, based on comparison with Slovene žigra (“tinder”).
