[edit]Learned borrowing from Ancient Greek Ὀλυμπιακόν ἔτος (Olumpiakón étos, “Olympic year”) with semantic loan from French olympique in relation to the Olympic Games.[1] By surface analysis, Ολύμπια (Olýmpia) + -ακός (-akós).
