From Hellenistic Koine Greek συλλέκτης, from συλλέγω (sullégō, collect). Morphologically, from συλ- (συν-) (plus) +‎ λέγω (ancient sense: choose) Sense collector of items, semantic loan from French collectionneur. Sense apparatus for collection, semantic loan from French collecteur.[1]
