[edit]Inherited from Old East Slavic *бѣлоѫсъ (*běloǫsŭ), from Proto-Slavic *běloǫsъ, from *bělъ (“white”) + *ǫ̃sъ (“moustache”). Cognate with Russian белоу́с (beloús), Czech bělovous.
