[edit]Inherited from Old Slovak déšť, dišt, dišč, from Proto-Slavic *dъždžь. Possibly morphologically influenced by Old Ruthenian дожджъ (doždž). Cognate with Carpathian Rusyn додж (dodž), Slovak dážď and dialectal Ukrainian дищ (dyšč).
