Can be related to verb Russian сечь (sečʹ, to cut) as "section, piece of body".

Cognate with Old Novgorodian сѣкꙑле (sěkyle) (document № 955 in the birch bark records of Novgorod); and Ukrainian си́кель (sýkelʹ), Ukrainian се́кель (sékelʹ), and Ukrainian се́кіль (sékilʹ), all of which are also archaic.
