Etymology[edit]

The word was transliterated into Armenian following Western Armenian pronunciation of the letter ճ (č), which is [d͡ʒ]. The same happened in Ճապոնիա (Čaponia), Ճավա (Čava), Ճենովա (Čenova), ճիզվիտ (čizvit).
