Etymology

[edit]

Compare Northern Kurdish jajî, jajik (a kind of cheese),[1] ژاژ (jaj, name of a herb used to flavour cheese), and Persian ژاژ (žâž, thyme). For the interchangeability of plant-names with ‘cheese’ or ‘milk’, compare Armenian պանիր (panir, cheese) and dialectal պանրխոտ (panrxot, thyme), or կաթնախոտ (katʻnaxot, literally milk-grass), կաթնածաղիկ (katʻnacaġik, literally milk-flower).[2] Possibly related to Ottoman Turkish جاجیگ (cacıg).
