[edit]Etymology
[edit]Borrowed from Russian да́мка (dámka, “the king in checkers/draughts”), possibly via Yiddish דאַמקע (damke). Semantically without doubt influenced by German Dame (“checkers, draughts”) and equivalent names for the game in most European languages, eventually from French jeu de dames.
