Etymology[edit]

From Ancient Greek ζεύγλη (zeúglē, loop attached to the yoke), which derives from the verb ζεύγνυμι (zeúgnumi, to yoke, harness).

  1. sort of wooden stick that is placed vertically on both sides of the neck of a draught animal, so it does not come off the yoke
