Etymology[edit]

Augmented from the root ف ر ح (f-r-ḥ); some Northeastern peninsula dialects like the Šiḥūḥ have shifts of to h; note also the ancient Omani tribe name بَنُو فُرْهُود (banū furhūd), الْفَرَاهِيد (al-farāhīd), whence the nisba of the Oman-born originator of the kitāb al-ʿayn derives.
