From Aramaic סוּכְּרָא (sukkərā), from Akkadian 𒄑𒊕𒆰 (GIŠ.SAG.KUL /⁠sikkūru⁠/, bolt, bar; part of a plow); compare also borrowed from the alternative vocalisation Arabic سُكَّار (sukkār).
