Etymology[edit]

Calque of Arabic شَرِكَة (šarika), from ܫܲܪܝܼܟܵܐ (šarīkā, sharer, partner) +‎ -ܘܬܐ (-uta, the abstract noun ending). Itself borrowed from Arabic شَرِيك (šarīk).
