Inherited from Old Hindi इमांन (imāṃna), from Classical Persian ایمان (īmān), from Arabic إِيمَان (ʔīmān). First attested as Old Hindi इमांन (imā̃n). Compare Assamese ঈমান (iman), Bengali ঈমান (iman), Gujarati ઈમાન (īmān), Marathi इमान (imān), Odia ଇମାନ (imāna), Punjabi ਇਮਾਨ (imān), Tamil ஈமான் (īmāṉ).
