Inherited from Prakrit 𑀤𑀻𑀯𑀸𑀮𑀻 (dīvālī), from Sanskrit दीपावलि (dīpāvali). Cognate to Assamese দেৱালী (dewali) and Hindi दिवाली (divālī). Doublet of দীপাবলি (dipaboli) and দীপালি (dipali).
