Etymology

Borrowed from Classical Persian فرهاد (farhād), which is from Parthian prht (Frahāt), itself from Old Iranian *Frahāta- (literally gained, earned).[1] Compare Old Armenian Հրահատ (Hrahat), Classical Syriac ܐܦܪܗܛ, Ancient Greek Ἀφραάτης (Aphraátēs), Φραάτης (Phraátēs), Φραδάτης (Phradátēs), Iranian borrowings.
