Etymology[edit]
Borrowed from Hindi बन्दूक (bandūk, “gun”), from Arabic بُنْدُقِيَّة (bunduqiyya, “rifle, gun”). The original Arabic was بُنْدُق (bunduq) and denoted filberts, nuts shaped like the projectiles thrown from stone bows.
