Etymology

From Old Georgian ფათერაკი (pateraḳi), together with Middle Armenian փաթերակ (pʻatʻerak) borrowed from a Middle Iranian language: compare Middle Persian [Book Pahlavi needed] (p(y)tydʾlk' /⁠petyārag⁠/, evil, misfortune; adversary), Persian پتیاره (petyâre, affliction).
