From Akkadian π’€€π’‡‰π’Œ“π’„’π’‰£ (ÍDPurattu), itself from Sumerian π’€€π’‡‰π’Œ“π’„’π’‰£ (ÍDBuranun). Developed into *Κ°UfrātuΕ‘ (literally β€œhaving good fords”) through folk etymology.[1]
