From Scythian *Xārahōsta (“splendid, mighty”), composed of *xāra (“splendid”) + *hauvasta (“powerful”) (cf. Khotanese hauvasta (“powerful”).[1]
Cognate with Ancient Greek Χαραηώστης (Kharaēṓstēs).
