Etymology[edit]

Attested as Enneco, Ennego and other variants in medieval documents.[1] Probably from the Basque Ennece, a proper name.[1] A relationship with the Latin proper name Ignatius is very unlikely.[1] Basque cognates are Eneko and Eneka.

The Spanish family name Íñiguez is derived from Íñigo and the suffix -ez.

Proper noun[edit]
