Etymology[edit]

From Old Swedish ært f, from Old Saxon erit[1], eriwit, from Proto-Germanic *arwa-aito. Cognate with Danish ært, Faroese ertur and Norwegian ert. Possibly related to Latin ervum and Greek όροβος (órobos).[1]
