[edit]Learnedly, from Ancient Greek ἄκαμπτος. Morphologically, from ά- (á-, privative α-) + κάμπτω καμπτ- (kámpto kampt-, “bend, turn around”) + -ος (-os). The figurative sense, semantic loan from French inflexible.[1]
