From Koine Greek μαμμόθρεπτος (mammóthreptos), initially "one who is fed by grandmother", from μάμμη (mámmē) + θρεπτός (threptós), verbal adjective from τρέφω (tréphō, to feed, to bring up). Cognate with English mammothrept.
