From Proto-Slavic *vědomъ, present passive (perfective) participle of *věděti (to know). Equivalent to dialectal вям (vjam, to be familiar) +‎ -ом (-om).

Borrowed from Russian ведомый (vedomyj, driven). Equivalent to the lost present passive (perfective) participle of веда (veda, to conduct) +‎ -ом (-om), from Proto-Slavic *vesti.
