Etymology[edit]

Derived via Western European languages from Attic Greek πολύγλωττος (polúglōttos, many-tongued, polyglot), alternative form of πολύγλωσσος (polúglōssos), from πολύς (polús, many) + γλῶττα (glôtta, tongue, language). Compare Russian полигло́т (poliglót), Belarusian палігло́т (palihlót).
