Etymology 1[edit]

Follows from the diachronic convergence of Proto-Slavic *tъčiti (to point, to sharpen) from Proto-Indo-European *(s)tewk- (to hew) and Proto-Slavic *točiti (to stiffen) from Proto-Indo-European *(s)tek- (to rig, to fixate). Morphologically, an iterative of Russian ткнуть (tknutʹ, to poke).
