From Old East Slavic черга (čerga),[1] from a Turkic language, compare Azerbaijani cərgə (row, rank); ultimately from Middle Mongol ᠵᠡᠷᠭᠡ (ǰerge). Cognates include Ukrainian черга (čerha).
