Etymology

[edit]

From Iranian. Compare Parthian [script needed] (ḥwrʾnzymH /Xōrānzēm/), Middle Persian [Inscriptional Pahlavi needed] (ḥwlncym /Xōrānzēm/, Khwarranzem), transliterated into Greek as Χορνανζημ (Khornanzēm). Related to Georgian ხვარანძე (xvaranʒe). The Iranian name contains the etymon of փառք (pʻaṙkʻ, glory) as the first part. The second part is disputed. Doublet of Խորանձէ (Xoranjē).
