From Middle Persian farr (“glory”), from Old Persian 𐎳𐎼𐎴𐎠 (farnā, “glory”), from Avestan (xvarənah-, “glory”), + -ք. Compare modern Persian فر (farr). See Wikipedia article on Khvarenah for more. The sense of “dogma, belief” is a translation of Ancient Greek δόξα (“glory; opinion, belief”). Compare how ὀρθόδοξος (ortho-doxos, “having the right belief”) is translated as ուղղափառ (ułła-pʿaṙ).
