Etymology[edit]

Late Antiquity, exclusively in the Christian context, from about the 4th or 5th century. Compound of ὀρθός (orthós, straight) +‎ δόξα (dóxa, opinion) +‎ -ος (-os, noun of result or an abstract noun of action).
