From Proto-Indo-European *h₂(e)rH-mo- +‎ -ուկն (-ukn). Perhaps contaminated with մուկն (mukn, muscle). Cognate with Sanskrit ईर्म (īrma), Avestan 𐬀𐬭𐬨𐬀 (arma), Ossetian арм (arm), Latin armus, Old Church Slavonic рамо (ramo) and Proto-Germanic *armaz.
