Armenian[edit]

Etymology[edit]

From ծիրան (ciran, apricot) +‎ -ա- (-a-) +‎ փող (pʻoġ, wind instrument), because traditionally the instrument is made from apricot wood. A modern creation by linguistic purists intended to replace the widespread Turkism դուդուկ (duduk).
