The origin is unknown. Compare Persian نسرین (nasrin, “dog rose”).

   • 1478 – 1492, Amirdovlatʿ Amasiacʿi, Angitacʿ anpēt [Useless for Ignoramuses] :

     Յուլէխ ըլ քալպ․ որ է հ. մասուրն, եւ թ. իթ պուռնի կասէ․

     Yulēx əl kʻalp; or ē h. masurn, ew tʻ. itʻ puṙni kasē;

     Yulēx əl kʻalp = Is in Armenian masur, and in Turkish it is called itʻ puṙni.
