Etymology[edit]

From մարմին (marmin, body) +‎ -ա- (-a-) +‎ վաճառել (vačaṙel, to sell). Compare Persian تن‌فروش (tan-foruš) for a similar formation; compare also English sell one's body, French vendre son corps. Formally identical with Old Armenian մարմնավաճառ (marmnavačaṙ, meat seller).
