Armenian[edit]

Etymology[edit]

Borrowed from Northern Kurdish sivorîk, siworîk, sivore (squirrel). First attested in 1621 in Rivola's dictionary, explained as "a small animal that preys on birds" and glossed with Lombard bellora (weasel). Doublet of սամույր (samuyr, sable).

Has also been incorrectly identified with the rabbit.
