From Ancient Greek ἐπὶ κῶμον (epì kômon, after the meal), or from ἐπικώμιον (epikṓmion), neuter of ἐπικώμιος (epikṓmios, something that is after the meal), from ἐπι- (epi-) +‎ κῶμος (kômos) +‎ -ιος (-ios).
