From Ancient Greek ἐπὶ κῶμον (epì kômon, “after the meal”), or from ἐπικώμιον (epikṓmion), neuter of ἐπικώμιος (epikṓmios, “something that is after the meal”), from ἐπι- (epi-) + κῶμος (kômos) + -ιος (-ios).
