Etymology[edit]
Most likely from Russian мизи́нец (mizínec), with the -ец (-ec) ending changed for ־ניק (-nik). Semantically, likely inherited from Old East Slavic мѣзиньць (mězinĭcĭ, “youngest son”) as opposed to the modern meaning of мизи́нец (mizínec).
