Usage notes[edit]

  • The Academy of the Hebrew Language states that the word has two traditions of pronunciation dating back from Mishnaic literature שִׁיפוֹן (shifón) and שִׁפּוֹן (shipón) and determined that nowadays the former is the standard form.[1]
