Etymology[edit]

Derived from Classical Persian فیلان (fīlān) from Arabic فِيلَان (fīlān), dual of فِيل (fīl) and used to refer to the two bishops in chess together. By surface analysis, فیل (fīl) +‎ ـہ (-ah).
