Inherited from Proto-Turkic *kus- (to vomit);[1] cognate with Azerbaijani qusmaq, Chuvash хӑсак (hăs̬ak), Kazakh құсу (qūsu), Kyrgyz кусуу (kusuu), Turkmen gusmak, Uyghur قۇسماق (qusmaq) and Uzbek qusmoq.
