Etymology[edit]

From كِتَابَة (kitāba, writing), verbal noun of كَتَبَ (kataba, to write) + اَل (al-, the) + رَسَائِل (rasāʔil, epistles), plural of رِسَالَة (risāla, epistle), connected with رَاسَلَ (rāsala, to correspond), from the root ر س ل (r-s-l).
