Arabic[edit]

Etymology[edit]

Considered to be the original form of نَبِيّ (nabiyy) by Sibawayh, but sometimes interpreted as a hypercorrection due to the loss of most glottal stops in Old Hijazi.

Noun[edit]

نَبِيء (nabīʔm (plural أَنْبِيَاء (ʔanbiyāʔ) or نُبَآء (nubaʔāʔ))

  1. (sometimes proscribed) Alternative form of نَبِيّ (nabiyy, prophet)

Usage notes[edit]

Considered incorrect by Sibawayh, but used in the Qur'anic reading tradition of Nafiʽ al-Madani.
