Etymology[edit]

From a derivation of Proto-Turkic *yal- (name of different types of grass).[1] Cognate with Kyrgyz жалбыз (jalbız, mint), Uzbek yalpiz (mint), Kazakh жалбыз (jalbyz, mint), etc.
