From ܚܡܫܐ (ħamšā(ʾ), five, fifth) + ܒ- (b(ə)-, in) + ܫܒܐ (šabbā(ʾ)), absolute singular form of ܫܒܬܐ (šabb(ə)ṯā(ʾ), Saturday, week). Compare Arabic الخَمِيس (al-ḫamīs) and Hebrew יוֹם חֲמִישִׁי (yôm ħămîšî).
